A Jump Drive is a component that allows starships to use Tachyon Jump Gates to travel to distant linked star systems instantaneously in a process called Crossing The Gap. They allow the tachyon particles created by a jump gate to be "accepted," by the starship rendering the particles into a useable beam that emits forward and allows the vessel to bridge. They are of Human design, not installed on a lot of registered ships and cost of installing one isn't cheap.
